One big criticism of poker these days is that the characters have gone out of the game. And where you get big poker players, you get fun and interesting quotes.

It’s true that many of the best quotes in poker have come from its larger-than-life figures, but the game has such wide-spreading roots that people from all walks of life have come out with a gem or two.

As Dan Holley from Casino.org once said, “May the controversial and loud-mouthed forever brighten up the game we love”. So, whether it’s Tony G launching a tirade at other players, Phil Hellmuth launching a tirade against himself, or Will Kassouf just…. well, launching,…

Here are 30 of the best quotes from the poker world…

Life is not always
a matter of holding good cards,
but sometimes,
playing a poor hand well.

Jack London

(1876 – 1916, American novelist, journalist, and social activist)

Poker is like sex - it's more fun when you go all-in

If you play bridge badly
you make your partner suffer.
But if you play poker badly
you make everybody happy.

Joe Laurie Jr.

(1891 – 1954, American vaudeville monologist
who later performed on radio and on Broadway)

Trust everyone,
but always cut the cards.

Lester Ben “Benny” Binion

(1904 – 1989, American gambling icon and mob boss)

Poker exemplifies
the worst aspects of capitalism
that have made our country so great.

Walther Matthau

(1920 – 2000, American actor and comedian)

One of the interesting things about poker is
that once you let your ego in, you’re done for.

Al Alvarez

(*1929, English poet, novelist, essayist and critic)

When we play, we must realize,
before anything else,
that we are out to make money.

David Sklansky

(*1947, American professional poker player and author)

Poker takes a minute to learn
but a lifetime to master.

Mike Sexton

(*1947, American poker pro and commentator)

Poker may be a branch of psychological warfare,
an art form or indeed a way of life –
but it is also merely a game,
in which money is simply
the means of keeping score.

Anthony Holden

(*1947, English writer, broadcaster and critic)

To be a poker champion,
you must have a strong bladder.

Jack McClelland

(*1951, Poker tournament director and poker player)

What is Conversion Rate Optimization?

Conversion rate optimization (CRO) is the systematic process of increasing the percentage of website visitors who take a desired action — be that filling out a form, becoming customers, or otherwise.

The CRO process involves understanding how users move through your site, what actions they take, and what’s stopping them from completing your goals.

Source: Moz.com

In simple terms, conversion rate optimization is finding out why visitors are not converting, and then fixing it. That’s all.

Unfortunately, this isn’t so easy. If it were, there would be countless numbers of website millionaires. 😉

SEO Quote - Conversion Rate optimization: It's much easier to double your business by doubling your conversion rate than by doubling your traffic - Jeff Eisenberg

Some of the following quotes may be perceived as controversial when considered against the common understanding of conversion rate optimization.

However, the authors are all experts and professionals who run their own hugely successful websites, and are therefore probably in the best position to judge.

There are mainly two types of websites that make money.

(1) A business that is marketed online
(2) A “magazine” or “media” business

Whatever your business, you are either running (1), (2), or both. If the answer is ‘neither’, then it is very unlikely that you will make reasonable money with your website.

Ries and Trout said, that companies fail because “9 out of 10 products are introduced to fill a void in the company’s product line, not to fill a void in the market.“. These very wise words mean that 9 out of 10 entrepreneurs who try to make money with their websites are probably failing because their products don’t fill a void in the market.

Are you one of the website owners who struggle to make the ends meet?

If yes, then try hard and learn to see things from your customers’ perspective and aim to fill a void in the market. Your chances of making decent money will then increase.

To help you become successful we have collected wise quotes and sayings from people at the top, and there is always ‘room at the top’, as they say.

These people are ‘famous’ in the business world and/or website development: SEO professionals; experienced bloggers; consultants – all giving valuable pieces of advice on the topic of how to make money with a website

Content is King! Who hasn’t heard this saying before?

The expression is commonly attributed to an article written by Bill Gates back in 1996, but if you search on Google Books you can find two books by historian A. Wyatt Tilby who used these words in 1914. And if you look further then you will find that “content is king” probably originated during the heydays of the British monarchy. It is a very old saying!

Content is king because it pays a living to the people who produce something (content). However, if you continue thinking, the fortune actually lies with the distributors (such as Google & Co). Therefore, there is an extended saying these days, attributed to Sumner Murray Redstone: Content is King, But Distribution Is Queen!

The peasants of British North America lived in poverty despite content being king. They were the farm workers, struggling to make a living, whilst the content queens – the traders – became rich.

Today, having now moved away from tangible products to the intangible digital product, this still holds true: “Content is King”, but those who take the content and redistribute it earn the most money! Bill Gates anticipated this back in 1996. He pointed out that it will be difficult to earn money online on content for years to come, at least for content creators.

Nevertheless, to be successful with a website, it is crucial to regularly create new, interesting and informative articles and to share valuable free content to attract new users. There is simply too much competition. It’s a hard life!

Enjoy our collection of quotes. We hope that they will inspire you to produce not just unique but intriguing and captivating content because this is extremely important to any website’s success. Nevertheless, bear distribution in mind too. 🙂

Give them quality.
That’s the best kind of advertising.

Welcome to our collection of motivational and at the same time thought-provoking business quotes.

We have picked 50 wise words and quotes by ancient philosophers, famous entrepreneurs, business founders, and investors.

Whilst collecting and deciding which quotes to include, we had in mind those people who have novel ideas but do not act. Many people fear the risk or are discouraged because they think surely other people must have had the same idea. But opportunity, though unknown, may be just behind the next corner.

The quotes are presented in chronological order by the birth date of the author and provides a great picture how perception developed over time.

Enjoy the quotes, inspire yourself to stay motivated, focused, and remember, never give up and be positive!
